(Overpriced?) JPEGs meets gaming : Exploring Play-2-Earn NFT projects on Solana

In 2021, Play-2-Earn (P2E) has become one of the most exciting narratives to take center stage in the crypto space. In 2022, it is set to get even bigger as VCs continue to pour in large amounts of capital into blockchain gaming. In this post, I will be sharing about some P2E NFT games on Solana (with floor price of under 2 SOL) which imo are flying under the radar but have decent potential!

Meekolony is a collection of 10000 NFT characters that provide benefits, rewards and items for Tatsumeeko , an upcoming modern fantasy play to earn (P2E) role playing game for Discord, Web and Mobile. Tatsumeeko has been in development since 2019 and will be integrated into the team’s existing product, Tatsu.GG, one of Discord’s biggest chatbot platforms which has reached millions of users in the past 6 years. This could indicate a strong potential for mass adoption of the game, since the team plans to leverage a highly successful product which is already widely used.

Q1 2022

• $MKLN (limited supply governance token) Initial Dex Offering

- Meekolony NFT holders will be allocated $MKLN tokens

• Staking Meekolony NFTs for $IGS (uncapped utility token to purchase in-game items and pay marketplace taxes)
• Avatar Integration : Create, customise own character which will be visible in the Tatsumeeko house

• Full Personal Dimensions : Creating dream private hangouts

Q2 2022

• Fishing, farming and crafting activites
• Party combat system : Customize party’s automated actions and optimize builds for idle combat
• Dimensional Rift : Defeat monsters to level up, earn items and play a limited subset of classes

• Community Dimensions : Creating dream spaces for community/guild hangouts

Q3 2022

• Launch of the actual game where $IGS can be earned

 - First set of towns and cities becomes available to explore

 - Side quests, main story quests

 - Work with friends to defend community dimensions against dimensional creatures, complete quests, craft gear and other in-game items

• Set up MeekoDAO for holders to participate in governance and treasury decisions

Q4 2022

• Land Sales : Meekolony NFT holders will gain presale access
• PVP Arena

• Mobile Release : enable cross-platform play on Discord, iOS, web and Android

Overall, the team has a diverse mix of talents and so far they have done a decent job of communicating to their supporters and community. They have also constantly given meaningful updates about collaborations, listings etc. , a good sign of commitment and dedication to the project.

Friendly and active community. The community is very engaged and I have gotten very pleasant vibes from the discord server.

Risks

The team failing to execute on the lofty promises is the biggest risk. Since the game is still pretty much in its infancy, only time will tell if the team can achieve what they have set out in the roadmap without any significant delays.

This project involves in-game characters called Jambo Mambos inspired by a real-life rescue puppy from Bangkok, Thailand! The team is passionate about pet rescue, rehoming and plans to contribute parts of the project's revenue to these causes along the way. The gameplay design, gameplay loop, and mechanics are structured after Party Animals, Fall Guys, Call of Duty, and Animal Crossing. Currently there are 4444 Origin Jambos in total and secondary marketplaces include MagicEden and AlphaArt.

Roadmap

Upcoming features include

• an early gamified staking platform where Jambos can level up and do quests to earn items for the main game (Q1 2022)
• Big Drop which are free game-ready 3D Jambos for holders of Origin Jambos (Q2 2022)
• Jambo Space for Jambo owners to play with their Jambos in their own virtual environment (Q2 2022)
• P2P marketplace (Q2 2022)
• an utility token used for breeding, acquiring special edition items from the in-game store and trading in the P2P marketplace
• a small-scale PVP battle royale game using Jambos where winning players will receive utility tokens (Q3 2022)

• Renting out Jambos and gears to other players with revenue sharing, similar to Axie Infinity Scholarships

Team

The core team members are doxxed with solid credentials. They have extensive experience in marketing and have successfully hosted a music festival with 20000 people before. The project head, Germán Palau has been in crypto since 2013 and has a vast array of experience in helping startups grow.

SolBigBrain, a prominent figure in the Solana NFT scene is also an advisor for the project. Many other advisors have a wealth of experience in blockchain gaming development and have been involved in top-tier games such as Call of Duty.

Overall, the experienced team seems to have the right pieces in place and is well-poised to execute on the future plans of the project.

Respectable numbers with a tight-knitted and passoniate community. The vibes I have gotten from their Discord server has been very positive and the existing members have been really welcoming to newcomers.
