Crypto 101: A look into the various sources to DYOR

An overview of the different resources to educate ourselves about all things crypto!

Hi everyone!

When I first started my crypto journey, I remember finding myself struggling to understand the different innovative concepts in this fast-moving space. Initially, I had no clue what DeFi, NFTs and Web 3.0 was. Thankfully, over time, I have managed to uncover some of the best crypto education content out there and I will be sharing some of my top picks in this post!

Youtube channels covering all things crypto

  1. Whiteboard Crypto

This highly informative Youtube channel is very beginner friendly and covers an array of topics ranging from DeFi, NFTs, individual protocols to just about anything in crypto. This channel breaks down complicated and technical terminologies in a fun and engaging manner by using analogies, simple diagrams, and stories. Their videos make it easier to understand complex crypto jargons, especially for us who lack the technical expertise and knowledge. Their videos mostly range from 10 to 20 minutes while still providing a good overview of the topic on hand, making it a very useful, time-efficient resource for those who want something short sweet!

  1. Bankless

Imo this channel is one of the more underrated ones out there as it goes very in-depth into the area of focus. The videos are normally 1 to 2 hours long and often contain meaningful and insightful conversations with the plethora of guests which have come on the channel thus far. Some guests have been founders of protocols/games such as Jeff 'Jiho' Zirlin (co-founder of Axie Infinity) and other notable guests include Raoul Pal (founder of Real Vision Finance) and Ryan Selkis (founder of Messari). Bankless also has a weekly email newsletter with different subscription tiers, the most basic of which is free. Bankless is available in podcast form on Spotify too, which makes it convenient to listen on the go!

  1. The Defiant

This channel has constantly combined high-end production quality with top-tier content such as tutorials, weekly updates, interviews, NFTs and other categories in crypto. Their notable works include Defi 101 - a 30-part film series and workshop on DeFi that goes through important concepts and major projects. Antoher series which I really enjoyed is the Defiant Guide to Pak. It was a truly intriguing experience which explores the mysterious, alluring works of Pak (arguably the most successful NFT artist thus far) and what he has in store for his fervent collectors.

  1. Coin Bureau

This channel is very active and uploads a new video almost every day. It is the most subscribed Youtube crypto education channel for good reason. Their team is based in London and consists of a group of professionals who provide in-depth insight into blockchain technology, distributed protocols and cryptocurrency trading/ analysis. Coin Bureau also provide beginner-friendly guides for newcomers to aid them on their crypto journey, such as crypto exchange guides and many others. Coin Bureau also has a free weekly email newsletter which covers latest market trends, and a telegram channel which provides daily updates.

DeFi-focused Youtube channels

  1. Taiki Maeda

This channel focuses on DeFi yield farming strategies which explores the best ways to earn passive income on the various DeFi protocols across the different Layer 1s from Fantom, Luna to Harmony. Imo, this channel is the most legit and down-to-earth Defi-focused channel out there, providing quality advice and tips to anyone interested in yield farming.

  1. Finematics

This channel provides easy to follow and concise explainer videos which are 10 to 20 minutes long and is a terrific educational resource for anyone new to DeFi. The quality of the content is superb and I really like the way they put forth their content which makes it easy to digest and internalise! One recent video that I really loved enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of DeFi 2.0 and I highly recommend giving this a watch!

NFT-focused Youtube channels

Giancarlo buys tokens

This channel is one of the og NFT channels which has continuously provided quality content and has managed to gain a significant following. Giancarlo, the creator is a former stock analyst turned full-time NFT investor. He covers all things NFT, such as upcoming trends, collections to watch out for, strategies and guides. He has regularly raised salient points regarding the long-term viability and success of NFTs and is definitely a Youtuber to follow closely if you are interested in levelling up your knowledge in the NFT space!

Local crypto content

ChainDebrief

Well, what more to say about this. I believe many of us here know of this local website which provides seriously good alpha on a variety of topics. This website has content that caters to both beginners and also people who have been in the space for some time. There is a dedicated team of writers who constantly churn out quality content. The Telegram group also has a vibrant community where local crypto veterans engage in constructive discussions and help out newcomers.

Closing thoughts

Given the wide range of resources available on the Internet today, educating ourselves on crypto has never been easier! At the same time, there are tons of low-quality sources out there, especially on Youtube so it is important to sieve out the bad from the good and gather information from legit sources. Always avoid influencers who use clickbaity titles (e.g. this will be the next 1000x gem!!!). They are clearly shilling their own bags and are out to pump and dump on unknowing newcomers who will be their exit liquidity.

Stay safe when investing and always DYOR! Thanks for reading and happy new year!!
