A Guide to Climate Vouchers 2024: All You Need To Know

Buy efficient household appliances with climate vouchers worth S$300 under the enhanced CFHP by 31 December 2027.

This was originally posted on Planner Bee.

Like many other countries in the world, Singapore is increasingly affected by climate change, rising temperatures and wetter weather. Unfortunately, predictions and projections from a climate study done earlier this year show that the situation is unlikely to improve.

Singapore has been implementing various policies and measures to mitigate climate change. To encourage and incentivise Singaporeans to be more mindful in using electrical appliances and do their part in slowing down climate change, Climate Vouchers were introduced in 2024.

What is it?

The Climate Vouchers are a part of the enhanced Climate Friendly Households Programme (CFHP), a programme launched in 2020 by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and Public Utilities Board (PUB).

Originally aimed at supporting 1-, 2- and 3- room HDB households in buying water- and energy- efficient essential household appliances, the programme has been extended to all HDB households in 2024 to defray costs for more residents making the switch.

Am I eligible for Climate Vouchers 2024?

As long as you are a Singapore Citizen or a Singapore Permanent Resident with an address registered at an HDB flat, your household will be entitled to one set of climate vouchers worth S$300 under the enhanced CFHP.

Even if you have redeemed Climate Vouchers under the previous CFHP, you are still eligible for the new set of vouchers.

How to redeem the vouchers?

If your household is eligible for the vouchers, you can claim them at RedeemSG. The redemption process is similar to that of CDC Vouchers, and only one household member needs to make the redemption. Other members of the household can spend the voucher when you share the voucher link with them. It is therefore advisable to exercise extra caution when sharing the unique voucher link so that it does not fall into the wrong hands.

When spending the vouchers, you may be asked to show proof of your residential address. In this case, you can simply flash your NRIC or access your Singpass application on your mobile device. Alternatively, you can bring along utility bills to allow for verification of your residential address.

Where can I use the vouchers?

Currently, Climate Vouchers can be used at one of the 14 retailers below:

  1. Audio House
  2. Bathroom Warehouse
  3. Best Denki
  4. Chuan Heng Hardware
  5. Cold Storage
  6. Courts
  7. FairPrice
  8. Gain City
  9. Giant
  10. Harvey Norman
  11. Mega Discount Store
  12. Sheng Siong
  13. T S Yong Trading
  14. Woodlands Domestic Electrical

Do note that you can only use the Climate Vouchers in-store and they are not accepted for online transactions. To get the most updated list of retailers participating in the programme and their respective locations, you can refer to this website.

What can I buy with the vouchers?

Previously, only refrigerators, LED lights and shower fittings qualified for redemption. Under the enhanced programme, the types of products eligible have increased:

  1. Refrigerator – 3 ticks and above
  2. Air-conditioners – 5 ticks
  3. Direct current (DC) fans (excluding those with non-LED lights)
  4. LED lights (including LED circular lights and LED downlights)
  5. Heat pump water heaters
  6. Washing machines – 4 ticks
  7. Water closets – 3 ticks
  8. Sink/Bib taps and mixers – 3 ticks
  9. Basin taps and mixers – 3 ticks
  10. Shower fittings – 3 ticks

Similar to CDC vouchers, multiple vouchers from different households cannot be combined to make a single purchase. Conversely, you do not need to spend all S$300 in one transaction and you can make several redemptions since the vouchers come in various denominations of S$2, S$5, S$10 and S$50.

The number of ticks will be displayed on the respective energy labels of the products. The energy labels provide information such as the energy consumption, which helps consumers make a more informed choice when buying household appliances. The more ticks a product has, the more energy- or water- efficient it is.

More tips on using the Climate Vouchers

One may wonder why there is a need to make the switch to water- and energy- efficient electrical appliances. Apart from doing your bit for the environment, did you know that this could also help you save on utility bills in the long run? By using a 5-tick instead of a 2-tick air conditioner, NEA estimates that one can save about S$303 a year; and if you switch from a 2-tick to a 4-tick refrigerator, you may be able to save S$59 a year.

As you do your shopping, look out for deals and offerings from various retailers. For example, Harvey Norman runs attractive “Climate Hero” promotions monthly, where selected eligible products will be highlighted for more discounts so that you can maximise the use of your vouchers.

Before heading down to the physical stores, you can also browse various retailers’ online stores to see which appliances are eligible to be purchased with Climate Vouchers.

Also, under the Resource Sustainability Act, if you buy qualified products such as air-conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines, you can request for the retailer to help you dispose of your old appliance of the same product type at no extra cost. Be responsible in disposing of small unwanted appliances such as light bulbs by looking for E-waste collection points that are located island-wide.

It is also helpful to keep in mind that you have until 31 December 2027 to redeem the Climate Vouchers so you can take your time and consider what your household needs.

Beyond buying more efficient household appliances, we can also do our part for the environment by re-examining our lifestyle and habits. By adopting and practising sustainability in our daily lives, we have a better chance at creating a thriving future for ourselves and generations to come.
