Volunteering is a rewarding experience that not only benefits the community but also enriches the lives of participants.

A big part of volunteering is about giving back to the community, but that’s not all it’s about. It’s also about enriching oneself through meaningful experiences and connections. If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, there are numerous avenues for adults to contribute time and skills towards various causes.
Whether it’s lending a hand to the elderly, supporting transient workers, advocating for animal welfare, promoting mental wellbeing, or fostering interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), there’s something for everyone who seeks to make a positive difference.
Read on for a list of some organisations that offer volunteering opportunities in these diverse fields.
Dedicated to providing quality care for the elderly, the Society for the Aged Sick welcomes all volunteers, even if you do not have prior volunteering experience.
Volunteering here could be something as simple as befriending, with just a simple visit over a simple meal, or you could get hands-on with regular programmes like Nagomi art, gardening, cooking, karaoke and more.
From time to time, the Society for the Aged Sick also holds small events and outings for their residents. During these special group events, you could participate in interactive games or perform old tunes for the residents, or even take them out for a meal and a walk.

Volunteers at Thye Hua Kwan Hospital Aviator play a crucial role in enhancing the wellbeing of patients through companionship, support, and various recreational activities. If you’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of the elderly, consider joining their volunteer programme where you can contribute your skills and time to transform lives.
Before engaging in direct service delivery with the beneficiaries, volunteers will undergo training and supervision. Additionally, volunteers participating in ad hoc projects will also receive training sessions.
From event-based, service-based, to skills-based voluntary work, you can get more information through THK Aviators’ Telegram channel.

This global organisation focuses on building homes and communities for those in need. By volunteering here, you can contribute your time and effort towards construction projects, fundraising initiatives, or advocacy campaigns aimed at addressing housing issues.
Upcoming opportunities include Project HomeWorks, which rehabilitates the homes of vulnerable persons and families into a safe and sanitary state. There is also BlockWalk, a virtual volunteering opportunity to clean up the neighbourhood or a green space. Sew Much Love, meanwhile, is a collaboration with supporters to create Agape Blankets. These blankets are intended for distribution to low-income families facing colder seasons in the region or vulnerable seniors in Singapore experiencing social isolation.

TWC2 advocates for the rights and wellbeing of transient workers in Singapore. They have a structured programme for interested volunteers, starting with a monthly introductory session called Heartbeat. This online session hosted by a senior volunteer will provide more information about TWC2, delve into volunteer roles, and answer the questions you may have. This session is mandatory for all volunteers before they start.
The organisation also welcomes ideas on additional ways you could help, or if you have any special skills to contribute. However, volunteers will have to commit for a minimum period of three months, as they do not have one-time volunteering roles.
