Frequently Asked Questions

We always aim to serve our customers with security in mind

Is Seedly free?

Seedly is free to download and free to use. We allow users to simply be on the platform at no charge. We are right now focusing entirely on creating value for our end users and this means a holistic solution which covers the App, Community and Blog in one.

How is the app related to the blog and community?

Seedly is being built as a platform to help you make smarter financial decisions. The app allows you to understand your cashflow and budgeting needs, while our blog and community provide you with opinions, views and insights from other community members to help you make more decisions with the benefit of more information. It is all part of the bigger ecosystem that we are building to be the region’s leading personal finance platform.

That being said, information, reviews, comments and/or any statements made on any of our platforms are not intended to constitute any form of advice, recommendation, representation, endorsement or arrangement by us and is not intended to be relied on by you in making (or choosing not to make) any specific investment or any other financial decision.  Given that the impact and applicability of any views, opinions, comments or other statements made on our platforms vary widely based on your particular circumstances and the particular circumstances of those of other members of the community, you should always carry out your own research into any products or opportunities that are of interest to you.

As a general policy, Seedly does not curate, vet, or amend (though it reserves the right to delete any unhelpful content) any reviews, comments, statements, posts or other community information.  Such reviews, comments, statements or posts should be treated as (potentially impartial) opinions and views of other members of the community, which opinions and views may be considered (and even canvassed) by you but should not solely be relied upon in coming to your decision.

Will Seedly sell my data?

Rest assured we never sell your data. It goes against our company's ethos of serving the consumer with integrity and confidentiality. Your data is kept securely and well encrypted in our data vaults.

Why are my recent transactions missing?

Don't worry, it could be because you have not refreshed your data! The Seedly App operates on one-time, read-only access and assists you in downloading your transactions to and compiling your transactions on your mobile device. This means that your login credentials are NOT stored by Seedly at any point in time and a new One-Time Password will be sent to you when you want to refresh your data for security reasons. We will be working with the banks towards a real-time sync to create a more seamless process.

What security measures does Seedly adopt?

Seedly works with a third-party aggregator, Salt Edge, who directly receives your bank ID and password.  We do not and never receive your bank ID and password. Likewise, we do not provide Salt Edge with any of your personal information such as your name or email address.  This delineation ensures that no one has access to all your personal information and keeps your information more secure.

In addition to that, we have a very stringent security and privacy policy that keeps  your data secure and private. More on our terms can be found here. We would assure our users that we take privacy very seriously. We will keep your  personally identifiable data strictly confidential and will never sell, lease or distribute the same to any third party. We adopt a wide range of the latest security practices in mobile technology. These include a range of SSL encryption to 4-digit passcode locks.  We also commission security audits by third-party cyber-security providers.

Why does the OTP take longer than usual to be sent to me?

Salt Edge integrates and coordinates with your various banking institutions via a number of methods.  As a result, there are various complex tasks that Salt Edge has to perform before the OTP is sent to you by your bank. This is done securely and with a highly encrypted process. In line with our belief in making managing personal finance as effortless as possible, we are working to make this process even faster and more seamless.

What practices do we use to protect the data in Seedly?
  • Your Seedly app login username and passwords are stored securely in a separate databases using multi-layered hardware and software encryption.
  • We do not store bank/card credentials (username and PIN). Therefore, you will have to re-login via Salt Edge everytime you import your latest financial transactions and data.
  • Your transaction data is stored separately in our secure data servers and vaults are are thus not immediately identifiable to you.
Why are my transactions in the wrong categories?

Our Seedly categorisation engine is improving everyday to identify the nuances in the transaction names and accurately determine the categories they belong to. In the meantime, you will be able to re-categorise the transactions by simply clicking on them in the transactions page. We aim to make it accurate for our users as it is in line with our belief on how personal finance management should be.

Is Seedly directly associated with any of the local banks listed?

No, we are not and we want to make it clear that we are entirely independent of them. We are using a third-party aggregator, Salt Edge, that assists us with aggregating your financial data. We are at an arm's-length from the banks but have plans to further make the process a more seamless one with real-time data. The banks consider Seedly to be a third-party account aggregation service which helps you pool together various data sources from your accounts and display it as a simple aggregated view. Please note that your bank provider agreements remain applicable: DBS, OCBC, Citibank, Standard Chartered, UOB (updated 7th May 2018). We want to reassure users that we take security as our top priority and always scan our systems to ensure that it is well protected. In the event of fraudulent or suspicious activities, we advise users to contact the financial institution immediately and we will assist the situation.

Who is SaltEdge and how do they do the importing?

Seedly uses SaltEdge as one of the providers for the bank syncing feature. SaltEdge uses asymmetric cryptography so that private keys are on different servers. SaltEdge is also PCI DSS compliant.

Connecting to your banks

When connecting to your bank, you do so via a Salt Edge interface embedded into the App.  As a result, you enter your bank credentials directly into that interface and not into the App or any of Seedly’s platforms.  These credentials are sent only to Salt Edge and the Salt Edge service will establish a connection for your account and return the data to Seedly for visualization. Seedly never stores your online banking credentials. For more information, please refer to Salt Edge's Privacy Policy.
