Don't mean to get all political but how do you feel about WP Pritam Singh being able to speak for 40 minutes in Parliament, double the time of the other MPs? A historic moment in Singapore politics?

Not finance question, but hopefully more time to bring about constructive opinions and challenge the norm.

Looks like WP is going for a new image this time with English-speaking and younger-looking faces contesting this time. Do you like this new image or prefer the more informal image 5 years ago?

Seems like WP is targetting the younger, english-speaking and educated audience now that Loh Thia Kiang has stepped down for Pritam Singh to be chief. What are your thoughts? Do you like the new WP?

Why is the WP rebranding itself now differently compared to the Low Thia Kiang days. What do you think the intent is?
I think with new faces joining WP and the change in the demographics of the voters (towards the younger generation) it calls for the need for a rebranding to reposition themselves to the voters. A rebranding also ensures that WP portrays a strong front to the voters as an opposition that has grown over the years, credible and trustworthy.

Cashflow is important. What would be the estimated cost to run these manifesto for 5 years? Using projected demographics, which manifesto would result in a positive cashflow in the government balance sheet?

That's a very complex mathematical answer. The best response I can refer you is to NMP Walter's proposed measure in parliament.

Nothing much has changed. Past historical data has shown that there is no clear trend of the SG stock market after every election. Continue to focus on good companies with solid fundamentals and you will do fine over the long run :)

Singapore General Elections 2020

Today is the final day of GE2020 campaigning before Cooling-off Day kicks off tomorrow (9 July). If you had to pick a highlight moment for GE2020, what would it be and why?

The highlight for me this GE2020 will have to be the political TV debate between the 4 parties: PAP, WP, SDP, PSP. I liked the discussion that PAP’s Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan had with WP’s Jamus Lim. When Dr. Balakrishnan told Jamus that the WP manifesto could have been written by the PAP as well given that the two parties do not have too many fundamental things to disagree about, Jamus’s reply that the WP isn’t denying PAP a mandate but a blank cheque left an impression on me. I like Jamus's answer not because I think that the PAP has unjustified control over the policies (as I believe that there are justifications for the creation of each of our policies) but because he highlighted that an opposition party shouldn’t just oppose for the sake of opposing. A good government is one that functions to improve the lives of Singaporeans while ensuring that we maintain competitive economically. It shouldn't be confused with opposing the ruling party due to one's personal disagreement or just for the sake of doing so.

PSP’s Francis Yuen questioned PAP’s Vivian Balakrishnan on what kinds of jobs are they creating for the new 100,000 jobs creation plan. Do you think they're short-term jobs like temperature screeners?

Hi! Pertaining to the 100,000 jobs creation plan in question, I believe 1/5 is contributed by the SGUnited Traineeship Programme where employers are able to hire apprentices / trainees for a period of 12 months (of which, 80% of their traineeship allowance will be subsidised) You could find more information here -- https://www.wsg.gov.sg/SGUnitedTraineeships-HostCompanies.html On the short-term jobs, I don't believe that contributes to the 100,000 jobs being planned for. If it does, then perhaps the vision of the government might be slightly myopic. I reckon the short-term jobs being seen as stints to help people who require additional income to tide themselves over this period of time. Here's the actual outline of the 100,000 jobs https://www.straitstimes.com/politics/parliament-2bn-package-to-create-40000-jobs-25000-traineeships-and-30000-skills-training "He (Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat) told Parliament in his speech on the fourth budget this year that the support, dubbed the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package, would include 40,000 jobs, 25,000 traineeships and 30,000 skills training opportunities."
