I applied for 2 credit cards in the last 6 months and failed, and my credit report is HX, should I try applying for another?
Hi Anon, I am assuming that you meet the basic requirements for the credit cards that you have been trying to apply for (ie annual income requirement + nationality). May I ask if you have been applying to the same bank for both times, or were they to 2 different banks? The reason is because some banks may be more stringent with credit card approvals - and if you have been applying to such a bank 2x in a row, it is not surprising that you have failed again. You may want to consider trying to improve your credit score first by applying for lower limit credit cards such as the CIMB AWSM card or the Standard Chartered Manhattan 500 card. Both of these have low credit limits and should thus be easier to get approved for. If you are successful in applying for these cards, use them for a few months and pay off the bill on time every month before applying for a better credit card again. Also, to make sure that you submit the correct documents in future, you can consider applying online via Myinfo - it will get all your necessary information via SingPass, then you simply need to check that they are correct. Hope this helps and all the best! Regards, thefrugalstudent

I spend really little on my everyday card, and fee waiver request is denied! Charged $180++ for it. I want to cancel this now.

POSB Everyday Card or DBS Live Fresh Card? Minimal spending every month (online shopping and visa contactless) and wanna optimize rebates/cashback.?
Depending on your main type of spend + how much you spend, that would narrow down your choices. Although I am curious as to why you would only want to choose between the 2 of this? I personally use CitiRewards+ as one of my main cards, as it gives 4 miles per SGD for online spend. I don't spend much on it (around 400-500/mth), but I do think that that is one of the cards that give me the best value. If you don't spend much, and the spend varies across types (eg dining, contactless, retail), and you don't want to read too much into it, then I might suggest getting SC Unlimited Cashback, the cashback is only 1.5%, but you don't have to keep calculating and thinking about where to spend etc.

It depends on your transaction type and amount. Do take a look at Seedly's savings account calculator to see which suit you better.

First year annual fee waived. Just apply and get your extra interest! You can always cancel the card. =) Besides the everyday card, do consider livefresh card(min spend 600, 5% on online and paywave).

If the DBS Black visa still offers the 5% rebate, I think it's a good catch. If not, posb everyday will be good esp if you shop at Sheng siong, afterall you jsut need to spend once you be eligible for your interest. If you would consider other cards, I'll recommend Citibank SMRT which has tons to rebate or SC Spree card.

I get confused with reviews writing "minimum spend" when the bank website does not specify the minimum. What does it do actually? Does it waive off annual fees?

Hi depends on the context. Firstly, theres no minimum spend to use a credit card. However, there may be minimum spend to unlock certain benefits. 1. Minimum spend on Credit Card to get cashback/more cashback. Since your question tagged 'POSB Everyday Card', I shall use that as an example. - On POSB website, it states 'Get UP TO 15% cash rebates'. Woah, wonderful. But its definitely a 'bait' for you to sign up blindly if you dont read the TnCs carefully. - The truth is, there is only 0.3% cashback for ALL SPEND. With exclusions, of course. You cant get cashback for certain govt services, AXS services, ezlink, etc. - The 15% cashback is only for DINE catergory (Online Food Delivery and Online Food Catering). And thats not all, there's a minimum monthly target to spend before you can unlock 15%. So if you order total only 1 GrabFood order $20 in 1 month, you will only get 0.3% 2. As per what you have mentioned, all Credit Cards have annual fees. There are conditions to get it wavied. Mainly, you need to use the card frequent enough. So some bank may set certain minimum amount to spend per year to wavie annual fees. But I suppose most people are more concerned with point 1. Point 2, if they dont waive, you can simply cancel the card.

There are some advantages to it such as getting cashback, miles exchange! That said, it can be thought as an emergency card, to provide you with the means to pay in really really urgent case. Of course, proper money spending and saving habits are important so that you do not get yourself into unnecessary debt. I see it as a good to have, not necessary a must have of you are still young.

Depends on what you intend to use for. If you frequent Malaysia, Maybank Family & Friends will be better If you are just using in Singapore, POSB Everyday Card makes more sense. Do take note, there’s a minimum spending required.

Most cashback cards require you have had minimum spending before you can get the cashback. As for the DBS Altitude, if you don't think you can hit that amount, then don't force yourself to. There's no need to take advantage of the promotion; the card benefits are good enough (in my opinion at least).
