CIMB Platinum Mastercard Review 2020

CIMB Platinum Mastercard provides up to 10% cashback for the categories of Wine and Dine, Transport and Petrol, Travel Purchases in Foreign Currency as well as Health and Medical. At a glance, the CIMB Platinum Mastercard seems like a great card for the out and about go-getters. It covers cashback in categories of Wine & Dine, Transport and Petrol, Travel Purchases, Electronics, Health and Medical - sounds great for individuals who like to go out. The total cash back is capped at S$100 per month. Sounds dandy?

Not quite. There is a S$20 cap on each category. Which means if you only spend on 2 of the more common categories, like petrol and dining, you can only max out S$40 cash back. The CIMB Platinum Mastercard is also not suitable for those seeking cashback for everyday essentials.

I was really disappointed by the Free Flight Promotion where I was required to spend $600 a month for first3 statement months. Received the card on 9 Dec, 1st statement came 2 days later on 11 Dec and was told I no longer qualified for the promotion since my first statement did not accumulate $600. Oh well, so do time your card application if you're interested in the Free Flight Promo!

[Customer Service] Fastest bank to be reached via phone. Always less than 5 min wait to speak to an officer. Staff is always courteous and helpful. [Useful For...] Useful for Grab users and those with monthly braces payments. [Cashback Card] High cashback. [Hidden Terms] CIMB in general changes their cash back terms frequently without any notice. You have to manually check their website to be up to date.

    CIMB Platinum Mastercard

Used to be the best value for money. With the recent changes of having a minimum of $800 eligible spending, it becomes not so friendly and too high. There is also rebate cap for different categories which is confusing, and often the rebates depend on the MCC numbers which we as users will not able to know. Spending is based on posted and not unbilled which again beyond the control of the users. Do not allow spending on government institution to be eligible for rebates which goes contrary to our govt policies of cashless society.
