I (almost) never liquidate.
First comes good initial choice.
Since the success of single stocks is not predictable and Unit Trusts have terrible fees I mostly invest into passive (technology) ETFs.
I plan to hold these forever. It would be wiser, however, to select global passive stock ETFs like ticker ISAC.
That said , I still sold some rarely, f.ex. when I speculated on a turn around, which never happened (maybe should have waited longer, still no turn around up to now), then there were some (3 - 4) total losses during the dotcom-crisis.
