What would you advise a fresh graduate, not just in this particular cohort, but also in any normal year? Is it fair to criticize fresh grads as strawberry for not taking just any job that comes along?

Everyone wants to find a job and build a career that they can be passionate about. And even in this pandemic, I would encourage our young jobseekers to dig deep and find the courage, persistence and determination to follow their passion.

However, during this time, you may not immediately find the job that you want. In fact, not everyone will find their ideal or dream job immediately or at their first try. What I encourage you to do is to consider the scope of work and look at how that can help you build up your capability and ability for the job of your dreams. Manage your expectations and prioritise gaining new experience that can help to develop you professionally, over better salaries or prestige. In doing so, you have your foot in the door which allow you to build up your experience, build up your portfolio and be one step closer to achieving your dream job.

I had my uni bank loans to pay back. So I applied to any job. I worked in Prudential (not as an agent), for my first job. Of course it is far from my dream job, but I had to survive. I don’t think waiting will allow me to miraculously find my dream job as a banker, lol.
