What are the changes to the percentage of wage offset for employees following DPM Heng Swee Keat's announcement for the second stimulus package?

Will this be able to help these businesses and for how long?

As to whether this will help businessse and for how long, personally speaking, I do not think this will help much. Consumer confidence in spending will be low because of the uncertain times and people facing salary cuts and job losses. This will affect businesses' revenue.

I think the wage offsets are just to help businesses tide through these 2 months - but not sure how many businesses can still "tahan" the overall drop in consumer spending.

Only companies offering WFH products (electronics, furnitures, games), groceries, online stores, and delivery services would be benefitting from the Circuit Breaker I believe!

Hi Anon,

According to IRAS, the Jobs Support Scheme will co-fund the first $4,600 of gross monthly wages paid to each local employee for 9 months, tiered according to the various industries below.

Tier 1 - Aviation and Tourism: 75% of the first $4,600 gross monthly wages per local employee

Tier 2 - Food Services: 50% of the first $4,600 gross monthly wages per local employee

Tier 3 - All Other Sectors: 25% of the first $4,600 gross monthly wages per local employee

Due to the Circuit Breaker, wage support for all sectors will be increased to 75% for April and May 2020 (for the first $4,600 gross monthly wages per local employee), and revert back to the original amounts as mentioned above in the other months. This would be able to help businesses, especially those struggling and greatly affected by the pandemic. Let's all work together and fight this pandemic!
