Hi Fred, POEMS will allow purchase of ETFs/UT/Shares with CPF OA monies. As we are a CPF Investment Administator, your ongoing costs can be lower than going through the bank directly (e.g., there are no sales charges on UTs bought on POEMS)

If you are buying STI ETF for long term accumulation and you can only afford 300-500 per month, it would be more optimal to go with DBS Invest Saver (RSP) If you are considering buying foreign ETF, consider Interactive Broker. Extremely cheap and reputable.

It will all be custodian accounts for overseas stocks. When you sign up the brokerage, your custodian account will be opened in your name. CDP is our local custodian for local SG stocks. Brokerage act as custodian similar to CDP for overseas stocks.

This is a scam. Singapore's financial regulatory authority has no such broker as Goldman Sutton & Partners listed on their register. The Singapore government doesn't even have them registered as a business entity for tax purposes. It's a boilerroom investment fraud. That's when a foreign broker makes unsolicited contact with you and seduces you into investing in what he says will be a lucrative deal. You end up with nothing and they run off with your money. I would say the reply below (Kenneth Tan) has been put there by them. Stay well away from this mob. Try and search and you will find nothing execpt their web page, any other report on the scam are pulled down by them. You can get around that by signing into sites like this with facebook and they cant take it down as the Facebook member is the only one that can take it down.

Usually the dividends from foreign stocks are credited to your brokerage account. Because the stocks are held in custodian account of the broker. Tax on dividends depend on which country the stocks are from. US, 30% dividend tax. HK, no tax. Malaysia, yes. Can check with broker exactly which country and how much is the dividend tax

What etfs are you looking to get into? If into STI and or the abf bond fund, you can do so via posb's invest saver programme. If into global etfs and you have about 10k usd, interactive brokers may be a good idea. Or just use a robo advisory

Hi yes,dbs cash upfront is custodian account hence the cheaper fees compare to dbs cash account. it is unlikely to sell the stock in 3 day unlless you are trading,in which case may i suggest that you look into fsmone or standard charter brokerage?

Can't say about CN, HK shares but for buying US stocks, I will go for Saxo Capital. If I am not wrong, SAXO min fee is US$3.99. On the other hand, Interactive Brokers mininum commission is US$1, they will die die still want to earn from you US$10 each month. Thus, I will go for SAXO for US market. Edit: If you do many trades in a month then I guess Interactive Brokers will be better. As for SG shares, I will go for DBS Vickers cash upfront account. Minimum commission is $10 or 0.12% whichever is higher. The best thing about this is that all your shares are in CDP! If you want to sell, I recommend opening an account with FSMone and link the CDP account with FSM so that you can sell at $10 or 0.08% whichever is higher.
