What should you do if company is trying to make you resign on your own rather than retrench you?

I think you are not alone, for companies with high turnover rate, those who stay behind will be expected to tank the existing workload while waiting for new staff to be recruited (if at all). If you do not see further growth in the company, then I agree with Moolah-man that you should start sticking your head out and look for other openings. Of cause, you can choose to stay at the current job while looking around to secure another job before tendering. But while you look for the new job, it's important to set your objectives right. If your financial commitments allow, then accepting a reasonable pay cut may not be a bad idea if you can catch your breath (from the piling workload) and pick up new skills/experience. Set your sight on your career growth, not just the pay.

Everywhere same, everybody the same. Company want their staff multi-tasking, want cheap labour. Especially companies that practice lean management, not because want to retrench you.

To be fair, there could be various reasons to why you have a high workload. You might not be able to see the bigger picture and it could really be beneficial for you to be able to speak to someone who might have a better explanation for you.
Ultimately, take the effort to arrange a 1-1 with your direct manager/superior. Understand the constraints of the company, is it really because the company is trying to βforceβ you out? Or could it be that the company is freezing hires due to the COVID-19 situation.
I hope you are able to get yourself past this difficult situation soon!
