In view of the low oil price (20s), was wondering is there any Oil ETF, unit trust etc that I can purchase for long term investment? Do you advise trading in WTI using CFD for long term?

Is investing in an Oil ETF wise? What are the pros and cons?

I am pessimetic about oils.

Sure, we need oils for plastic, transports, and electricity but the trend is moving towards less use of oils.

  1. electricity by solar and wind are already cheaper than burning coal, and is set to be lower than burning oil

  2. electric car is already more economical than internal combusion cars. There are electric ships and aircrafts now, though need a few more years for better batteries.

  3. there are organic and non-oil based plastic now. Probably going to be cheaper than fossil oil in the near future.

I will think oil still can bounce up in the near term (after all, we can't stop using oil suddenly), but in the long run, I won't touch it with a 9 foot pole.
