I have many friends who work part-time while still schooling, and uses all the money they earned for their grad trip. Is an overseas experience worth the expenditure?

Am I missing out by saving instead of going for a grad trip?

Yes - it might not be easy to travel together after you guys start working. and its nice to use the money you earn to do something, instead of getting from family.

Certainly worth it! Because:

  1. You've work part time / school holiday to earn the extra $, not asking/taking $ from parents.

  2. You've only grad with the same friends once in your life at the best time of your life. Just like Prom. There's no 2nd take and even if you have trips after work with the same bunch of friends, it felt different and not the same anymore.

  3. It's a nice experience if you don't get to go holiday all the time and even if you do, it's with family and not with friends in school and it felt different.

I had the chances of going backpacking with few friends from school at 16, even though only to few places in the north of malaysi, it's quite an experience and it's really fun with friends! :)

So! Go work for it , earn the $ and Go for it!

Life has no take 2. I don't support YOLO or FOMO but this is not one of those but it's a very good experience that you don't wanna miss!

Cheers!

Happy Grad Holi!

it is never too late to do anything. The experience you get when you travel as a fresh graduate with minimal Budget and working adult with more Income is very difference. Iโ€™m glad that I have both experiences. After all I realised that even if i can afford it, I still prefer to do certain thing budgetly because it gives me more fun and happiness. For example, accommodation, I can afford to stay in the hotel but I still prefer to stay at home stay or guest house where I have interactions with others. My friends who never travel budgetly as a fresh graduate didnโ€™t dare To even try it. Some feel embarrasing as well. Ultimately, donโ€™t feel lose out. If u feel like doing it, just do it!

In my personal opinion, yes you are missing out.. I think it's fine, have a break before entering the working life. Heck, I think even quitting a job to travel for a few months will garner unforgettable experiences, of course before all the bigger responsibilities kick in (housing, wedding, renovation, kids, etc). Right now you are young, go forth and explore! In future, when you are way higher in the career ladder and can't afford to take much (financial) risks due to family, the opportunity window will be much smaller, and to me that's where you will regret the most. Money can earn back, but this kind of experiences you will never forget (trying to make a rhyme haha)

TLDR; If not now, then when?
