Hi Anon, congratulations on the birth of your child. :)

You have 4 options when considering Critical Illness Insurance for your child.

1) Rider on a Term Policy

2) Rider on a Whole Life Policy

3) Rider on an Investment Linked Policy

4) Standalone CI Term Policy

One thing, I would recommend you to consider is an All Stage Critical Illness policy or Early Critical Illness as the industry calls it instead of just advanced stage Critical Illness.

And for a young child, financially a rider on a Whole Life Policy is probably the best option.

For the amount of coverage to get, the rule of thumb I use is 1-2 X Annual Household Income as coverage.

This would give the parents enough time consider taking time off work to take care of an ill child plus potentially hire help as well.

Every insurer has such a product, so I recommend you to speak to an Independent Financial Advisor for a comparison or an advisor you trust.

But my top 3 options are

1) Aviva MyWholeLife Plan III

2) Manulife Life Ready Plus

3) China Taiping i-Secure

If you'd like such a comparison, feel free to reach out to me. :)
