How do you achieve a good work-life balance?

Hi, I've been struggling to find a good work-life balance. My husband and I work very long hours, and our son is mainly taken care of by our helper at home. However, I recently have started feeling like my son is way closer to our helper than he is to me, and it's really troubling me as a mother. What are some ways which I can set aside more time for him? Areas that I should be looking to cut back on?

Achieving work life balance is possible if you are able to negotiate for flexible working hours/arrangements for your family needs. Speak to your boss regarding your needs for flexible working hours /arrangements so that it is a win win situation. Just my humble opinion.

EXERCISE with your kid!

its a great way for all to have a healthier life style and improve your work-life balance.

so you get to be healthier, your kid and ur hubby!

And you can cook healthier meals together with kid and hubby.

What jobs do your husband and you work in that require the very long hours? There's only so much you can do with a weekend because it's just 2 days while you spend 5 days at your job during the work week. The key is to manage your job if you want more family and personal time. As long as you have to work very long hours, there's just no way to have a good work-life balance. You have to give something up.

I grew up under a maid's care too as both my parents are working. And I did see my younger brother who was closer to the maid. However, when we grow up, we do know why our mother is not with us daily, and it didn't affect our relationship.

So hope this sharing does help you in your fears.

Currently my wife and I have a domestic helper to help too, and our son is very close to the helper and its a GOOD THING. you know that the kid is happy under her care if the kid is close. You won't want it the other way....

Having said that, setting aside more time is good. What we did is that every night, we will spend 1 to 2 hours of bedtime reading, playing and he sleeps in our room.

Every weekend, we will bring him out and give the helper a rest to have her own free and resting time in her own room. she appreciate this too. sometime we bring her out if its a big family event, but most of the time we let her do her own stuff to rest and we get to bond with the kid.

Don't feel guilty. taking care of a kid needs a whole village in the older days and since village lifestyles are gone, we need domestic helpers to help us nowadays.
