I would see where they go for lunch, if is high ses meals, I wouldn't join them as it would be out of my budget. I'd only join those who's willing to walk a little during lunch for sunshine and fresh air for nearby hawker / coffee shop food, since we have similar budget and hence will think alike and hence also will be a more suitable lunch buddy.
I can totally empathize with this, as I have had co-workers who are extremely high SES and snubb hawker fare.
It is also easy to want to be sociable and agree to eating a '$25++ value-for-money 3-course set lunch' with a high SES co-worker who wants to do so, but if you are saving money and have a goal, stay focused!
I will usually lunch with colleagues, but will find similar minded friends who want to get cheap but good food ;)
Finding the right lunch buddy isn't easy.. especially since everyone's budget and preferences is different. I would however prefer to eat alone or dabao so it's more manageable on my wallet. Constant HDL all these also not healthy for the health.
Prefer to eat lunch alone to save $, but occasionally I would join them for something more exp for celebration or something new and interesting for me. Occassionally still need to socialized with colleagues a bit lah.
you can do intermittent fasting and skip lunch. can save tons of money. then can afford to eat with colleagues once in awhile
Usually with colleagues because we usually eat at the same few places that doesn't cost more than $5 usually. Then again, there isn't much places around where I work.
Recently though, I'm been trying something new called Mealpal that provides high SES lunch at affordable price. Signed up for one of their promo plans that make it only $3/meal, while the value you get per meal is typically $12. Pretty good to introduce to your colleagues if everyone's pretty high SES in lunch options so you get to save some money yourself.
Hop around for lunch clieques. By joining which cliques, i will know if my budget will break for the week/month or not! Haha
I prefer eating with my colleagues! We usually keep our budget below $5 so it's okay for me! :)
I’ll draw parallel to eating with my schoolmates. Of course I prefer eating with them, but that doesn’t mean we can’t eat at hawker centres or food court. Once a month indulgence ($20) I think it’s fine.
