I've heard horror stories about degrees being to vague and general for companies, and realised my degree could be like that. what should I do to avoid this?

You should speak to your seniors, career counsellors, upgrade your skills, and apply for internships.
It's up to you to sell yourself and your value to the company you want to work for. Your degree doesn't matter much after you get a seat in front of your future boss for an interview.
Take up job internships to find out more about certain career and the related industry. Give yourself time to explore different careers. Do not rush into it. Speak to career counsellor if there is a need to.
A degree is just a gateway to the workforce! Don't let it limit your choices and potential!
