250k cash what to invest in?

Hi guys, I’m currently a final year business student from NTU. Have around 250k in cash. How should I invest this sum of money? Would it be better if I sign up for ocbc premier and let my RM manage the funds?

3mths emergency savings max. Invest the rest.

Get into something safe like funds and bonds in different geographical locations first to understand how things works.

With more confidence and knowledge, Slowly ease into higher risk investments like equities and crypto. Dont wait till you're 35 and regret bc by then u would have much more commitments. You can afford the risk now than ever

I'd suggest split into half and carry out 2 options:

1) $125k into CPF SA and enjoy 5% interest. Assuming you leave inside to compound for 40 years (I presume you are around 25years old and intend to retire by 65), you would have around $879k by retirement. Based on this amount you will receive more than $4k in monthly CPF Life Payouts. Quite a comfortable sum for retirement. Pro is CPF SA is AAA product but the biggest con is you cannot touch the money until 65years old

2) learn how to invest, research and pick your own stocks. Start small to learn and make the necessary mistakes before you go bigger with the remaining $125k.

Whatever you do, never ever put money with RM who may have management fees and does not always necessarily put the interest of the clients in first place. Go read up about the 2008/2009 GFC and how the fallout deeply affected some Singaporean retirees.

Afternote: you may want to play around with the numbers to ensure you have at least 6 months emergency savings and well covered by insurance before thinking to top up CPF SA and/or DIY invest.

Do reach out to me if you're interested in hearing out what I did. I had a life changing event 5 years ago which led me to sit down and seriously consider what to do with money for the first time in my life. I happen to be around your age group as well.
