Was chatting with a "financial advisor" last week and we were discussing on the downfalls of active equity funds and I brough the SPIVA report. Guess what? She does not even know what SPIVA stands for or what the report is about!!! LOL the standard of our "financial advisor" is really down the drain in Singapore.

An SPIVA report doesn't help one in closing a sale, it just gives clients more basis for comparisons. It's not their job to analyse funds in a macroenvironment whether they outperform other funds, they just need to sell you that the recommended fund outperforms itself / is set to spike.
Anyway, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt if they didn't know about SPIVA (I myself didn't know that this report was termed SPIVA too. Thanks for teaching me something new). I think the worse FA I've met is one that never even invests themselves.

My impression is that financial advisors are usually speciliazed in insurance rather than investment products. Talk to them for insurance products.
