  • You must ask: if i can work in an establish company with the same salary, able to go back on time with less amount of work why join the startup? (startup usually very lean)
  • Employee still prefer cash, dont give equities unless you are Tesla, i know they give their staff shares
  • The salary must able to justify the amount of hour spend on job
  • Dont really care about career growth, as management always overpromise & under-deliver, if want to move to higher level employee will job hop.

Growth: You need to offer better growth opportunities than MNCs. Someone working at an MNC typically will rise up slower (in some cases, significantly slower) than at a fast-growing startup. For great employees, they can go from analyst head of a department within 3-4 years.

You need to sell your startup's growth trajectory too. If you've raised a funding round, make sure you talk about that. Sell your vision to potential hires. Convince them that their equity will be worth x times more in the next 3-5 years that they're with you.

Compensation: If growth is good, you don't necessarily need to offer equal compensation. However, it's always best if you can at least match their current compensation. It doesn't need to all be in cash; you could do a mix of cash + equity.

While you're growing your startup, make sure you have Startup Insurance in place; you certainly don't want a lawsuit or some other large risk derailing your growth.
